About

My interest in woodwork started primarily from Design Technology classes at school, and also learning bits from my Grandfather who taught me how to use a lathe as a teenager.

Unfortunately this interest waned for quite a few years, until lockdown helped me to think about making small DIY projects for my flat in Manchester.

I started out small with a few shelves, and then worked my way up to coffee tables, drinks cabinets and more as I started to enjoy myself and get more confidence with the process.

Making things for my flat has been a great way to learn, and has helped to give me things to work towards outside of work and other ventures.

Without getting too philosophical, there is an old proverb which says ‘necessity is the mother of invention’. This couldn’t have been more accurate for me. In that many of the items that I have made have been necessary to fill my living space.

Once I’ve decided upon a new project, I enjoy conducting research online to get ideas. The abundance of blogs and videos on the internet make it a great place to get inspiration.

The idea of using reclaimed materials where possible is also very appealing. I especially like the idea of creating something new out of something that looks rough, old or unusable.

As this is a hobby, I think it is more about enjoyment and the sense of fulfilment that I gain at having completed something first and foremost. If I am happy with the end result, then that is also a definite bonus.

I also have an interest in websites and content writing. This website is an excuse to combine this interest with my woodworking hobby. The things that I have made for my flat have given me plenty to write about.

This website has been fun to make, and it has been a nice way of revisiting some of the things I have made over the past few years.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and please feel free to take a look around.
