I am in the process of reading ‘Ingrained: The Making of a Craftsman’ by Callum Robinson.
I had recently returned from a trip to Wales, where I had climbed Snowdon and some other hills. So, I was looking for a good new book to read that had a focus on nature and the outdoors.
I decided to have a quick search online to discover some new books on the Waterstones website. This one stood out straight away. I stumbled across it by accident, so it was a nice surprise.
It was in a section for books that had been shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing. I recognised some titles that I had read and enjoyed previously such as ‘The Shepherd’s Life’ by James Rebanks.
So, it felt like I must be in the right section for what I was looking for. This book was shortlisted in 2025 amongst some other interesting stories.
Seeing as I had recently finished a small coffee table, I felt motivated to purchase it. I hope that I might be able to learn a thing or two from the author and the contents.
First impressions upon reading the blurb are that it sounds like a very interesting story, based on the personal journey of a Master Woodworker. It also has a lovely cover image.
Reviews are fairly unanimous in their praise, so I am looking forward to getting stuck into it. I will write down my own thoughts when I have finished.
If anyone has already read it, please feel free to leave a comment on your thoughts below!
Another book on my bookshelf and yet to be read is ‘H is for Hawk’ by Helen Macdonald. This book was also nominated for the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing in 2015.
I think once I finish Ingrained then I will have to move onto this book.
